its good to be alive

it has been a heck of a week. wanna hear about it?

Sunday- claire decides jumping off of the pew at church would be good. hits her mouth-blood all over joe.

wednesday- joe decides to (accidentaly) bust his ankle playing volleyball. bad sprain, crutches necessary.

thursday- claire manages to open a bottle of motrin, dump it out and gets a few pills in her mouth. got them all out, shes fine.

PLUS, i've been having some strange back spasms that keep me up for hours at night... ugh i don't want to go into detail about that, but basically i didn't get ANY sleep last night with those and claire deciding she wanted to get up at 2 and 6...

so nothing could really go wrong today, right? sooooo wrong. i have also spent the entire week deep cleaning the house getting ready for my momma to come next week (extra launday, carpet cleaning, etc. etc.) got the house looking pretty good and smelling alright. tonight i came home, did a little more cleaning, then got claire all dressed up for a little trick-or-treating, threw some meat on the stove for some dinner for when we got back, and headed down the street. the whole time i just had a feeling like i wanted to get back but ignored it, because claire was doing well figuring out how to knock on the doors and say bye to everyone. we finally went home, walked up the driveway, heard some strange beeps, opened the door and smoke came pouring out. more confused than panicked, i ran in, ducking under the smoke to find out what was smoking. oh. the meat on the stove. great. no flames, okay get it off the heat. open doors- get that beeping to stop! no- get the windows open first, then worry about beeping. oh and get those fans on. the alarm- the alarm! we are lucky enough to have 3 smoke detectors, 2 of which are connected to the fire department. ugh, i REALLY don't want the fire department here....

anyways joe managed to cancel the fire department, but protocol makes them still check out the situation, so we heard the truck coming, then they turned off the sirens, and pulled right up. they were super nice, checked everything out, and left. since dinner was ruined and uh, the house still stinks, wendy's made us dinner.
here's the kicker- the meat was not cooked all the way through! after smoke in the house, completely black pan, under cooked meat! and now the entire house- carpet, furniture, clothes, etc., all stink like burned meat. yuck.
all in all, i'm glad to be getting an extra hour of sleep tonight. and that we are all safe, and house is intact. here's to a better day at church tomorrow.

200!

post number 200! we had our ward trunk or treat last night and dressed claire up again... one more time this week! she doesn't love walkin' around in those boots. but she was a trooper last night and when we got home she was got totally wound up when we took the boots off. the result- one cute almost one-year-old! i can't believe shes one (almost) already. how time flies.
she was going crazy with the rolling pin. watch out!

shes a total babe, right? a total goober more like it. i'll try and get a picture of her in her actual get-up.... on saturday. sweet.

a little of this

baldy has finally grown a crop of hair. and i. love. it. almost time for a trim in the front because it gets in her eyes....

i especially love that she got the hair from her daddy!

and now.... a sneak peek of claire and her halloween costume! lindsay's apartment complex had a little trunk-or-treat monday night and convinced me to dress up claire for it. she definitely loved being outside in the cold. not. but she like dancing to michael jackson!

sick picture of me. and claire was in a no-smiling mood. whatev.

kinda boring

i'm just not that into fall, and i guess that is showing through on here. i like the whole pumpkins, halloween, holidays thing, but i just don't like being cold. i hate long sleeves, shoes, and how i feel in coats and sweaters (like i put on twenty pounds). i just like being warm in a t shirt and flip-flops, pool time, and driving around with the windows down.

and so, i promise to try and find some things to post on here..... and this is what i have so far.

the sick thing struck our house pretty hard the last few weeks, but none more than claire. she got hit with double ear infections, and a likely case of strep throat and swine flu (it has been going around our neighborhood). the first couple of days it was rather pathetic. all she wanted to do was sleep in our arms, and be held. kinda sad. she then lost her voice, making it even more pathetic. not gonna lie- it was kinda nice being able to ignore her tantrums because i couldn't hear anything! she bounced back faster than i thought possible, and she makes us laugh more than ever.

day one- 103 degree fever- but nothing can stop her watching her fave- ELMO!

this is what i had for 3 days. so sad.

trying to be funny/i get bored/we kinda like watching the office, we had a little wedding reception for jim and pam when they got married. it looks disgusting, but this cake was GOOD.

claire is almost a year old and i can hardly believe it! she makes us laugh so much sometimes it gives me a headache. she is a little monkey, and i can't imagine loving her more. she can be a handful sometimes (read- church is getting kinda hard) but she is pure joy. she is so close to the spirit, and i always joke about how she has things to do in this life, but its the truth. oh claire, you make us laugh!
i guess this was the most comfortable position to drink the bottle in?
i dunno, she insisted on drinking it this way

we are just kinda plugging along right now, getting through school, work, church, and enjoying every minute together. my absolute favorite is waking up and bringing claire into bed with us and we just kinda snuggle together and laugh.
i can't wait for the next few weeks- halloween! can't wait to dress claire up. my mom is flying in for claire's first birthday in a week and a half and then staying here for when my brother gets married and then through thanksgiving. i'm so excited to have someone to hang out with during the day while joe is gone at school and work! and my dad and sister are flying in, too. its a party!it'll be so sad to have everyone here without my little brother.... 22 more months!

i guess that we need to do that a little more in our family....
last night joe was trying to open my door for me in the parking lot and the car was parked a little close to another car. i smiled as he tried to squeeze in between without touching the other car and said 'think skinny thoughts!' and got in and closed the door. he gave me a rather puzzled look as he walked around and was worried i had offended him for a moment.
'thanksdoing box {is what i heard}... what did you mean by that?'
'what? where did that come from, thanksdoing box?'
'no, why did you say thanksgiving sauce?!?!'
'thanksgiving sauce? no, think skinny thoughts!'
'ooooohhhhhhhhhh'
and then commenced uncontrollable laughter for about 20 minutes

a veritable feast

we looooove conference weekend at the brewer house! we love getting to listen to our church leaders give us guidance and counsel, and try to soak it in as much as possible.
we just woke up. give us a break!
claire on the other hand.... not so much. anything involving sitting still is just not her strong point

although she does love helping in the kitchen!

she also reeeeally loves giving herself kisses!
we also love feasting on food. what would conference be without chili dip, cinnamon rolls, and pumpkin muffins?
{my food prep teacher would be cringing right now, and for good reason. no variety in color, texture, temperature..... its just two weekends out of the year!}

still so mean

woke up a little toooo early. she really was asleep. perhaps more proof she is my child?
