happy sabbath

i've had a lot of thoughts going through my head today.... here's the run down. feel free to NOT read this if you don't want to!

i would totally love to go to florida and sell this summer. really though, i'm excited to be staying here, and staying in our ward. it'll be the first time that i have stayed in one ward for longer than 4-8 months in a few years, and i feel like during the last couple of summers something was really lacking in the wards we were in. they were always really welcoming and it was awesome to meet new people, but church just always seemed to be an after thought most of the time. even with a calling in primary with the kids last summer, it just seemed that it was a hassle and not something to look forward to. i am feeling like we are finally settling in, even though we have been here for a while. i felt like i was holding my breath because we were never sure how long we would be somewhere, and today i felt like i could take a breath. people recognize us (not everyone by any means, but some do!) i feel like i can chat with people and talk rather than just introduce myself at every turn. it just feels nice.

also at church, sacrament meeting was especially good today. it may have just been that we finally were able to get ourselves up early enough to get to church well before it started, and actually got a seat in the front half. the music was espcially good- i just LOVE church hymns, and found myself close to tears a couple of times out of love and gratitude for my Savior. the words in these two hymns got to me- especially these from 'how firm a foundation'

2. In ev’ry condition—in sickness, in health,
In poverty’s vale or abounding in wealth,
At home or abroad, on the land or the sea—
As thy days may demand, as thy days may demand,
As thy days may demand, so thy succor shall be.

3. Fear not, I am with thee; oh, be not dismayed,
For I am thy God and will still give thee aid.
I’ll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand,
Upheld by my righteous, upheld by my righteous,
Upheld by my righteous, omnipotent hand.

4. When through the deep waters I call thee to go,
The rivers of sorrow shall not thee o’erflow,
For I will be with thee, thy troubles to bless,
And sanctify to thee, and sanctify to thee,
And sanctify to thee thy deepest distress.

and also the hymn 'as now we take the sacrament'
1. As now we take the sacrament,Our thoughts are turned to thee,
Thou Son of God, who lived for us,Then died on Calvary.
We contemplate thy lasting grace,Thy boundless charity;
To us the gift of life was giv’n For all eternity.

2. As now our minds review the past,We know we must repent;
The way to thee is righteousness—The way thy life was spent.
Forgiveness is a gift from theeWe seek with pure intent.
With hands now pledged to do thy work,We take the sacrament.

3. As now we praise thy name with song,The blessings of this day
Will linger in our thankful hearts,And silently we pray
For courage to accept thy will,To listen and obey.
We love thee, Lord; our hearts are full.We’ll walk thy chosen way.

lately we all keep on hearing about 'these tough economic times.' i don't particularly like that phrase, because it strikes fear and panic. things are always going to be tough, but we just need to have faith that we can get through it.

okay thats what was going through my head. that and some other stuff. good night.

Kates...love those hymns AND just love music. How Firm a Foundation is one of my favorites, especially the last verses. It reminds me of my mom and dad a lot. You have a firm foundation - you'll be fine - breathe, breathe, breathe. You have so much to offer to your ward - get ready when they figure it out! Love you tons, Mama
